Woman arrested after deadly hit-and-run

A woman from West Monroe was allegedly involved in a deadly hit-and-run accident, and police have now arrested her. She is 46 years old, and she's been put in the Ouachita Correctional Center. The charges against her include the hit-and-run and negligent homicide. She's facing felony charges.

Documents do seem to indicate that she's been cooperating with the police, saying she even went to the West Monroe Police Department voluntarily and admitted to officers that she had been behind the wheel at the time the crash was first reported.

The wreck happened at about 7:30 p.m., when a 45-year-old pedestrian was hit. Debris from the car was left behind, and police determined that the vehicle had been a Jaguar, made between 2004 and 2008.

A witness also came forward to say that a white vehicle was involved, indicating that he'd watched it hit the man and then drive off.

Police then found the car, and it had significant windshield and hood damage. It was a 2006 Jaguar S-type.

The woman who was arrested admitted that she hit something, but she claimed she did not know what it was. She also said she didn't stop to give aid or even find out what she'd hit, and she said she didn't call police before simply driving off.

A hit-and-run accident is especially problematic because prompt medical care can often save lives. When drivers don't provide care or contact emergency services, it delays treatment and can, in some cases, turn a survivable crash into a fatal accident. When that happens, family members may want to know how to seek compensation on behalf of the deceased.
