After deadly accident takes 2 lives, charges are pending

A pair of men from Deville were killed in a weekend accident, and the Louisiana State Police now say that charges are pending in the fatal wreck. One man was just 18 years old and the other was 22 years old.

Reports indicate that the wreck happened around two in the afternoon, when a 19-year-old man from Pineville was going north on La. Highway 107, behind the wheel of a 2011 Ford pickup truck. For some reason, he lost control of that truck. In doing so, the vehicle drove over the center line.

Coming the other direction was a 1997 GMC pickup truck, with another 19-year-old man behind the wheel. The two men who were killed were passengers in that pickup.

When the Ford crossed the line, the driver of the GMC swerved left, trying to miss the oncoming vehicle and avoid a crash. The driver of the Ford then recovered and swerved to the right. Unfortunately, that still put them both on a head-on collision course, and they slammed into one another on the shoulder of the road.

Both drivers were hurt. The man who allegedly swerved first had only minor injuries, while the other driver's injuries were moderate. One of the passengers died at the scene. Emergency crews rushed the other one to Rapides Regional Trauma Center, but he died that weekend.

Though charges are pending, the investigation is not yet done. Police are waiting on toxicology test results.

When a loved one is killed because of another person's reckless or negligent driving, family members need to know if they have a right to seek compensation. This can help with lost wages, medical bills, funeral costs and more.
