4 signs it may be time to divorce

After more than two decades of marriage, things are probably much different than they were when you first said "I do." It is not uncommon for couples to settle into a routine and for it seem like the romance has faded during the years that you built your family. But, if it is at a point where you are contemplating divorce, it might be time to examine your relationship more closely and decide if that is the right course of action.

While there is no one particular sign that you should get divorced, there some indicators that it might be time to take the first step.

Daydreaming about single life

If you find yourself constantly thinking about leading a life outside of your marriage, take that as a sign that it might be time to call it quits. Occasional nostalgia about younger days is one thing, but if you are truly convinced that you would be better off if you were no longer married to your husband, then it could be time to move on.

The kids are the reason you're still married

Staying together for the kids is not uncommon, however staying in an unhappy marriage may do them more harm than good. It may be more beneficial for them if you divorce and go on to lead a healthier and happier life than remain in a dysfunctional relationship.

Counseling hasn't worked

If you and your spouse have attempted marriage counseling and your relationship has not improved, then you should consider throwing in the towel. If the two of you are beyond the point where you can work toward repairing your relationship, divorce might be the only viable option.

There is no trust or respect

Sometimes a relationship can deteriorate to the point where trust and respect is no longer present. Since these are foundations of a strong marriage, there may be no point continuing once these aspects are gone.

These are just a few of the signs that it might be time to take the first steps toward divorce. If one or more of these apply to you, divorce could be the answer you have been looking for to move toward the life you want to live.
